Laura's opinion is that the chocolate tastes like chocolate milk when served cold and much like hot cocoa when warm. Her favorite! The vanilla is the strongest flavor and very good plain or mixed with low carb yogurt or a few frozen or fresh seasonal berries. The strawberry flavor has a very strong smell but the lightest taste. A favorite of people just starting shakes post weight loss (WLS) surgery since the flavor is light when you and your new, pouch is pickiest! This protein can be mixed with milk or soy milk, however, water is Laura's personal preference. It tastes great with water and keeps your caloric intake lower. Laura mixes her shake with 4-6 oz of water and blends it up in her favorite blender, The Magic Bullet. Other people that enjoy this protein use 8-10 oz of water or a blend of milk/water and use a shaker cup. You'll have to decide which flavors you like, and what method works best for you. _____________________________________________________________________________________ FAQs How do I make cold protein shakes? When using this product, keep in mind that colder liquid does not allow the powder to mix as well as warm liquid. You may wish to try using room temperature water with the powder, mix or shake, then add ice to the mixture. Same goes for hot cocoa-heat your water first, then add the powder. How do I make hot protein shakes? You do not want to microwave the protein since it will start breaking down with heat. Heat your liquid in the microwave, then add the protein. Can I bake with MAX Protein? MAX Protein is not formulated for baking. If you would like to use a flavorless protein in your baking, hot coffee, or soups/oatmeal, Laura recommends a product called Any Whey. It is not sold here but can be found in some local nutritional stores. How much protein do I need every day? This question varies from doctor to doctor and what your nutritional goals are. Consult your program for requirements. For WLS patients, in general, pre-op patients should intake a minimum of 100 grams per day, especially if having surgery with in 60 days. Post-op patients should intake a minimum of 50 grams per day. Yes, this means 2 shakes a day to start and possibly one a day later if you are eating enough protein through healthy food choices. For those people on a weight loss regime, 2 shakes per day plus 1-2 healthy meals is good way to start. I'm a WLS patient and sometimes my shake is foamy and hard to drink right away… WLS patients that use a blender for their shake can allow a few minutes of settling time for the drink to release some air. Many patients use a straw to drink from the bottom of the cup first to avoid extra air. Most programs allow straws as long as you do not feel discomfort from using them. How long can I leave my shake out if I haven't finished drinking it? Protein drinks are designed to begin fueling the body immediately and thus begin to breakdown. Leaving the protein mixed in liquid is not a good idea. As a general rule of thumb, if your drink is more that 30 minutes old, you should throw it out and remix a fresh one. I have to go to work every day, how do you supplement? Depending on your nutritional regime, many people supplement in the morning to kick start the day and drink a second shake in the evenings to keep their metabolism moving in the evening. If you need to take protein to work, you can always add a scoop of protein in an empty water bottle and add water when you are ready to drink it. Shaking works just fine! Many customers have mentioned that they keep a Magic Bullet in their desk drawer! I keep hearing about this Magic Bullet-what is it and where do I get one? A Magic Bullet is a small blender with mixing cups that allow you to drink straight out of them for less cleaning. They are small in size and mix things well. They can be purchased At Costco, Target, Wal-Mart, etc. They run about $50 but can be purchased cheaper "on sale" or with a 20% off coupon at BedBathand Beyond/Linen'sNThings. I get so bored with the same flavors, do you sell any others? MAX Protein comes in 3 flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry. There are many options available that will change the flavor and still keep you interested. Please check out our Recipes link! I need other WLS supplements, do you sell what I need? This is so confusing. At this time, Laura does not sell other products. Many WLS programs require different vitamins and have rules to follow. Please follow your program closely and always consult your doctor for problems or questions. Here are some basic rules: 1) Chewable vitamins are preferred for WLS patients-Costco has a reasonably priced chewable children's vitamin with iron. Consult your doctor if they have a brand they recommend or if they will allow you take something else in pill/capsule form after your surgery. This normally isn't an option until at least 6-8 months after surgery. 2) Do not take your calcium with your iron. Calcium supplements should also be taken in liquid form or powder form. Yes, this powder can be added to your protein shake. The preferred calcium is identified on the label as citrate calcium. If it says elemental citrate calcium, then it's a higher quality and preferred. Calcium carbonate is second choice and can be found in chewable products and Tums. It is not as digestible as citrate but still better than nothing if you cannot find or hate the taste of citrate. 3) Many supplements for bariatric patients can be sampled or purchased at Bariatric Advantage. _____________________________________________________________________________________ RECIPES Many people have posted their favorite mix-ins.
